Breaking my silence

My new year's resolution = use my blog more? The question mark is there because I am not sure yet. Perhaps I am to do a biweekly update, but considering I haven't written anything on here since the summer, there may be a lot of backlog to catch the fans up on.

Life summary: June 2025-December 2025 – Life is crazy: I did things, I made new friends, I have played volleyball into obscurity, I am just living my life because if I am not doing that, then what the world is going on?

Some highlights of the last six months: the one beach volleyball win + ice cream run (June), cottage max friends summer (July-August), Spain trip (August), 3k race (October), Germany trip (November), 5-week winter holiday (December-January).

Additionally, I have been notified that I have a cult following (I had to search up what it meant tbh), and I feel like I need to set up a forum of sorts to encourage interactions between my people/fans so they can organize ideas and rituals and such. Perhaps a discord server? Let me know your thoughts (comment on this post, or contact me in another way).  Hearing this was a huge ego boost because my dream job used to be: get famous by some unknown means which justifies me being able to write a book and a trivia game about my lore and mark-up the prices by 300%. Then spend the rest of my life living off royalties and touring and doing a TedTalk or something (obviously this plan is really thought out).

At this point, I am re-evaluating my hobbies and it involves calling my german culture class situationship (he had a gf the whole time) my ex – on that note, I have to reevaluate how I perceive men talking to me because I am really misinterpreting what I believe to be flirting, also playing sims, doing puzzles, making my notion look pretty, procrastination (my specialty, in fact), other things probably.

As we near/pass the mid-point of January, I am taking this time to reflect on the start of the month/ year. Up to now, I have done some things I am proud of (not needing Youtube to fall asleep every night, reading three books already!), and some I am no-so-proud of (playing clash royale every day, spending 100000000 dollars on large mochas)... let us review.

New years eve (aka January 1st after midnight): at the club w Ava and Dermott and their (my?) friends – weird experience – Jacob was waiting in line while I parked and I found him in the line and said "Jacob why are you surrounded by four beautiful women" anyways that's how we made friends in the line. We ran into a friend(?) from high school who worked there and he bought my friends drinks (I got a ginger ale (no ice) and a piece of cake hashtag NYE). I did one shot and then drove home (there was two hours between these events). Then I drove them halfway to farthaven and sang my favorite song (german rap song – Leider Wahr by Kontra K) in the car on my way home.

New years day: we left on a roadtrip (affectionately called the "Ontario World Tour" by me) in the morning at like 9 am.  I pulled out three Tim Hortons gift cards that I pilfered during my Trent University days and my mother spent them all throughout the entire trip (Jan 1-Jan 4). It's not like I was using them. We stop in at Anne and Brent's (they live in Toronto, they are my godparents). For those unaware, my dream job is midwife and I really want to get into the program at TMU – I asked Anne and Brent if they were looking for roommates (they would but their guest space is Anne's office – she works from home).

Their [adult/teenage] children were fighting and one called the other fat and when she complained to her mother I said "that's nothing" and then explained the lore about a girl who thinks I disrespect pregnant people and people who cannot get pregnant because I posted a picture on my instagram where I was bloated with the caption "big things coming soon." and then I accidentally texted her "okay fatty" – I was TRYING to say "okay fart." Anyways, that quelled the arguments I guess.

I received the book Dark Matter by Blake Crouch (honestly a fire book, 5/5 stars). We then drive my brother to his Guelphouse (Guelph house – not sure if I like that saying tho). I call Guelph "the place where dreams go to die" because (1) it's true, and (2) it makes my brother angry.

January 2-3 was spent in St. Thomas, ONTARIO with my fam-jam (special shout-out to Aunt Katie for giving me the information on our genealogy and living relatives – updating all that information is part of my 2026 goals). We stayed in a hotel and the first night we were getting some pre-bedtime tea in the lobby and this random guy comes over to me and asks "sprechen Sie Deutsch?" [do you speak German] – I say yes!????? His name was Peter and he was born in Mexico, lives in Texas, and his parents were from Elgin County – his entire family lived here now. He asked me if I spoke high or low german... idk man. Then he says, in low german "can you understand me?" I say a little bit because low german is basically dutch – turns out I speak high German – I didn't even know that! What a strange experience. He was telling us about his grandchildren and my mother said "god bless." I have never heard her speak like that before #new year, new mom?

January 4, I compared the notes about mom's side with Nonna's sister (also in Toronto) – then I told her I may be in Toronto next year because I want to be a midwife. She then said she would get pregnant so I can practice on someone... she is seventy. I told her "good luck with that" and then asked if she was looking for roommates... she was not.

January 5 and 8 were non-working days – Jan 6,7 and 9 were. I don't think I did anything of importance that week fr. January ninth in the evening was pool night with Holly, Cindy and Cindy's co-workers. Here are the highlights: Met Milan and Rory (very fun/cool individuals), poached Milan to my beach volleyball team in the summer (honestly I may be overdoing this poaching thing... the team's going to be huge), played pool (duh!), a drunk guy bought Holly and Cindy drinks and then we told him our names were Molly, Holly and Polly and that we were in a band called The Ollies. As the night went on (i had one water + one ginger ale), I got worse at pool so my new theory stands: the longer I play pool, the worse I get (it used to be related to me drinking). And finally, the piece of résistance, finding out that Rory and Milan were from Carleton???????? Honestly the biggest plot twist of the night.

This began the friend bender hang out weekend – I last minute bailed on rock climbing in a fit of mental fear, perhaps. And Sunday was the baby shower/ gender reveal/ father reveal – it was great fun. Special shout-out to Mormon Evelyn for correctly guessing the gender (a baby girl) and to Sarah for revealing the identity of the father.  A fun game called "would you rather baby names," in which you are presented with two equally awful baby names and have to pick your favourite, was played.

In upcoming semester volleyball news, we are losing one (1) player to America aka USA. And we have lost Coach (Diego) to Monday nights – but I have his phone number so not all hope is lost (I plan to poach him to my summer beach team as well).

Monday the 12 was the first day back at school – I am sitting in my 8:30 AM history lecture next to this girl Fiona who was one of my ops in HIS 2151 (taken last winter) – she stopped showing up to class, leaving me sitting with her friends, Noah (evil beautiful man) and Josh (British guy who the prof (also british) accused of making fun of his accent). I DID NOT SIT NEXT TO HER ON PURPOSE – I SAT DOWN AND SHE WAS THERE. Honestly weird class. Fiona's like... hi and I am like "omg how's it going!" because I'm not an asshole. The subject of this history class: Darwin and his legacy. I am a former biology major (current biology minor + biophysics minor for those who don't know) and I am an enjoyer of history classes. So that course is like the lovechild of my fave subjects?????? Of course I was signed up.

The time is 8:45 AM. No prof has arrived. The girl behind me and Fiona is getting our advice on an angry email she is writing to the department of history. I write a nicer email because I don't want to be a victim of the bystander effect. Fiona finds another class to take instead (she advertises it to us also ???? girl, I am not purposely taking another class with you. And why the world would I take a philosophy class - fr). By 9:15 AM, the class has mostly cleared out. This girl calls the department of history or faculty of arts or something and tells us that the class is cancelled because "they are still in the process of appointing a prof for this class." No one was made aware that class was cancelled? They sent out an email multiple hours AFTER class ended saying "sorry class was cancelled. we don't have a prof."

Okay so, like strong start to the semester. I go off to my biophysics class. Last semester's class (prereq to this semester's class) ended with six students – half of which made it clear that they are not coming back in the winter (aka now). I walk into the lecture hall – there are two people sitting there I don't recognize either of them. I re-check the room number and the schedule and go to fill my water bottle and check the room number again for good measure. I come back and Emma is there. For context this girl Emma literally sat next to me in every lecture last semester but when I would see her around campus and say hi, she would look at me with rapini face (not good). She is also a dopelganger of Holly... it's uncanny. She is in physics with a specialty in biological physics – this confirms I am in the right room – but we don't sit next to each other. She is my one-sided physics op (aka Evil Holly).

Turns out my physics class has nineteen students – as I predicted, three (me included) from last semester return. Prof Jim (my alternate universe BFF where I actually showed up to class last semester) just let anyone who emailed him and had a strong physics background sign up for the class. Also the class is cross-listed with a masters course, so there are like 4-5 students who are writing a masters/PhD. Jim gave me a shout-out ("Veronica is in the minor in biophysics"). He also gave Emma a shout-out, but like whatever. This beautiful French man with an unintelligible French name sits next to me and is on bff terms with Emma. This is my villain origin story. Question of the day: why are there nineteen students in my fun-little physics class?

Next was comparative endocrinology, termed "endo," lovingly by our prof, vance (new bff perhaps). I have never been to the basement of the colonel by aka engineer building, but it seems like you go from the first floor down more than one storey, you walk under some exposed wires dangling from the ceiling... engineering building? more like hire an engineer to fix this building... Anyways, the door to the lecture hall is at the end of a narrow hallway. Prof Vance points at me as I emerge from the bathroom and says "are you here for endo?" I say yes – he says that we are waiting for the door to open and I say – what a way to start the semester – I think I speak in a way that just meshes with old people's brains. The door-unlocker guy comes over and says "this is not the door to the class" and there is another door inside which one person is waiting – prof Vance says "wow, you're smarter than us! we can't even find the door!"

After class I find the tunnels that lead us around campus. While in the STEM portion of the tunnel, this girl whips around the corner, crashes into me and falls on the ground. I do the reasonable thing to do which is run away from her.

While in biophysics class, I am made aware by email notification that I have been accepted into german cinema class. This is great news. I do not attend the first lecture because I was added to the Brightspace 10 mins after class started and I didn't want to log into Zoom (very valid reason, tbh).
